During twelve years as a substitute teacher in North Carolina there were often times Lillian became involved in the arts programs. She was an art teacher assistant in 1983 and an art consultant in 1986. Lillian implemented an art program entitled Fingerpainting for Seventh Graders, depicting animals and birds.

While teaching at Hoggard High School in Wilmington, NC, Ms. Tompa's team won the 1992 Second Place award for coaching in the national "Odyssey of the Mind" competition. She and her team created a PVC pipe structure which enabled a ball to journey nine feet. This project was called "Delayed Reaction."

As a resident in South Carolina, Lillian was an active volunteer for the Horry County Literacy Council Reading Program. She also taught English to foreign students, and one of her Chinese student, in turn, taught her Mandarin Chinese.

One of Lily's New York City skyline paintings on sulfite paper is now on display at the J & E Galleries on Broadway, in Manhattan. Lily is especially pleased that one of her skylines has found a home in New York City.

Lily's recently held a show in 2002, at the North Myrtle Beach Public Library.

Some of the compliments left in the comment box at that show?

"Just wanted to let you know I really enjoyed your work, and it has a good abstract feel to it like Piccaso. Keep it up!"

"Your art is the most beautiful art I have ever seen."

"Your New York skyline looks so real - I love it!"

"I love the Ice Palace the best."

"They are so beautiful."
